Join Melissa Laurita Kohl, founder of Little Lucania Farm & Folk School (formerly Fungi Flora Folkschool) for a half day immersion into the art and craft of medicinal broth and soup making!
Fall is a transitional time requiring simple practices and medicinal foods to fortify us for the bitter (& beautiful!) cold ahead. Winter can be a time of great peace and joy if we enter it with a strong immune system, resilient nervous system and conscious connection to the plants, roots and mushrooms that live among us and want to nourish us.
To celebrate and feed Rootstock's 3rd annual 100 Hour Transformation Fire, we'll make soup! Medicinal, herbal, nourishing broths and soup to help build immunity, nourish the community that gathers here for ceremony and delight in learning and co-creation.
In this workshop you will:
Make 3-5 different traditional medicinal stews to fortify us for the winter by strengthening our immune systems. These healing broths will nourish the fire tenders and participants of the 100 Hour Fire.
Take a forage walk on the land to gather ingredients
Make a tasty herbal brew together that will build our immunity and warm our spirits
Make an herbal reduction to take home and use to help us enter winter more grounded & with greater peace of mind
Enjoy a simple soup supper together
No previous experience with herbalism or Traditional Chinese Medicine is necessary. This workshop will happen in Rootstock’s rustic outdoor classroom and is limited to 10 people.
About Melissa
For 22 years, she followed her passion for plants, studying organic farming, permaculture, and herbalism. As an artist, writer, and a half Italian mutt from NYC, her many passions have pushed and pulled her from the concrete streets of her home city to the hills of Vermont. In 2015, she founded a small herb school in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Fungi Flora Folkschool was a flurry of warmth, community, and the passion and excitement that is born of learning how to use herbs as food and medicine. The magic of pasta was only the first stop of her journey to rediscover her Italian roots and the mystery and wisdom inherent in these tiny but powerful mothers before me. La Via, as taught to her by some very chatty and helpful ancestors, her stregoneria teacher Gianmichael Salvato, and her Benedicaria teacher, Gail Faith Edwards, have added a depth to her practice and helped her realize that health should not be measured by productivity but by her ability to stay present in her life and enjoy the riches and power there. Melissa is also part of the 2020 cohort of Rootstock Retreat Conscious Creation Apprentices.
Cost to attend
This nourishing and useful half day workshop is $85.00/person and includes instruction, all materials, and a hearty and simple soup supper.
